Middle school students enrolled in Three Dimensional Art are currently creating bird sculptures for inclusion in a "Sanctuary" that will soon be installed in the Athletic Building first floor showcase.
After designing their birds on paper , shapes were sculpted using floral foam. Wood and wire additions were added by some students as structural or decorative elements.
Plaster gauze strips were then applied over the floral foam sculpture. Two layers were used to structurally support the pieces.
Here is a bird covered with plaster , ready for paint.
A hummingbird sculpture is being brought to life .
I will post the "Bird Sanctuary" installation pictures as soon as it is complete!
